Moritz is a Barcelona-founded lager brand established in 1856 by Alsatian immigrant Louis Moritz Trautmann, making it the oldest beer company in Spain and the first brewery in the city.

The brand carries a history of interruption and revival: economic pressures forced the brewery to close in 1978, and it lay dormant until 2004, when the fifth and sixth generations of the founding family relaunched it. Today the brand remains independently owned by the Roehrich family, direct descendants of the original founder, giving Moritz a continuity of family ownership stretching across more than 160 years. The brewery's physical home is the Fàbrica Moritz Barcelona, a historic building redesigned by the architect Jean Nouvel that functions as both a working microbrewery and a cultural venue in the city. Moritz positions itself as the beer of Barcelona, its identity bound tightly to Catalan urban culture rather than to a broader Spanish or pan-European positioning.

Moritz entered the alcohol-free category in 2010, a comparatively early move for a Spanish brewer at that time. The AF range is produced by brewing at full strength and then dealcoholising without high temperatures, which the brewery states allows it to preserve the aromatic character of the malt. Sober-curious drinkers will find the AF range available through specialist alcohol-free retailers.

The brand's combination of city-rooted provenance, a 2004 revival story, and an early commitment to the AF category gives it a distinct profile within the Spanish lager segment. The range sits in the mid-range price bracket.
