Asahi
Asahi is a Japanese beer brand founded in 1889 in Osaka, with an alcohol-free lager built on the Super Dry flavour profile that launched in January 2023.
Asahi traces its origins to the Osaka Beer Brewing Company, established in 1889. Super Dry, which launched in 1987, introduced the 'Karakuchi' dry taste profile that became central to the brand's global identity. The AF variant was produced through a dealcoholisation process developed by the brand's master brewers: dealcoholisation means the beer is brewed at full strength and then has the alcohol removed, and Asahi's method was developed to preserve the crisp, dry character of the original.
Asahi Breweries operates as a subsidiary of Asahi Group Holdings, the Tokyo-headquartered parent company. The group has set a target for 45% of its portfolio to comprise low-to-no-alcohol products by 2030, placing the AF Super Dry within a defined corporate strategy rather than a standalone initiative. Asahi Super Dry is also the Official Beer Partner of Manchester City FC, a commercial partnership established in 2022 that has kept the brand visible in mainstream venues.
For sober-curious drinkers who already know the Super Dry character, the AF variant offers a familiar flavour reference in a format that works across a wider range of occasions. Distribution is multi-channel, spanning mainstream supermarkets and specialist alcohol-free retailers. The AF offering sits at a premium price point consistent with the parent brand's international positioning.
