Funkin
Funkin Cocktails is a London-founded ready-to-drink cocktail brand established in 1999 by Alex Carlton, adding an alcohol-free RTD range to its mainstream cocktail portfolio in 2021.
The brand began as a supplier of 100% natural fruit purées to professional bars before expanding into consumer-facing products. In 2015, Funkin was acquired by A.G. Barr, the Scottish soft drinks group, for an initial £16.5 million.
The alcohol-free range centres on nitrogen-infused canned cocktails, a format the brand uses to replicate the smooth, velvety texture of a freshly shaken bar cocktail. Nitrogen is introduced into each can so that, on pouring, the liquid settles with a creamy finish rather than the flat pour typical of standard RTD cans. The range is a small, focused selection of classic cocktail styles, with the alcohol-free RTD format allowing Funkin to bring its bar-trade heritage directly into the grocery aisle in a way that suits sober-curious drinkers who want a recognisable, occasion-ready serve.
Funkin entered the alcohol-free segment in response to growing consumer demand for AF options that do not compromise on taste or format. The A.G. Barr ownership gives the brand a substantial distribution infrastructure, and the alcohol-free line is stocked across mainstream supermarkets as well as specialist online retailers, placing it within easy reach of a broad grocery audience. Pricing sits in the mid-range bracket, consistent with the wider Funkin portfolio, and the nitrogen format gives the range a technical point of difference within an increasingly competitive AF RTD category.
