Kingfisher is an Indian lager brand with origins tracing to 1857 in Mysore, when Castle Breweries was established, producing a 0.0% alcohol-free lager in its international lineup. The modern Kingfisher brand was launched in 1978 by Vijay Mallya. The brand operates globally under United Breweries Group, in which Heineken N.V. holds a majority controlling stake, and is brewed and distributed in the UK and Europe under licence by KBE Drinks.

The 0.0% lager was launched in the UK in 2023 by KBE Drinks, positioned to accompany spicy food and Indian cuisine, a food-pairing rationale that connects directly to Kingfisher's longstanding presence in the restaurant sector. A separate non-alcoholic lager was also launched in India in 2020 by United Breweries, making the alcohol-free segment a global strategic priority for the group rather than a market-specific initiative.

For sober-curious drinkers who regularly pair beer with Indian food, the 0.0% lager provides a familiar brand identity in an alcohol-free format without the need to reach for a generic substitute. The product is available through specialist alcohol-free retailers, with the brand anticipating broader on-trade and off-trade reach as distribution expands.
