Uiltje
Uiltje Brewing Co. is a Dutch craft beer brand founded in 2012 by Robbert Uyleman in Haarlem, Netherlands, whose low-alcohol range brings the same hop-forward intensity as its full-strength beers to the 0.2% category. The name translates to "little owl" in Dutch, which also happens to be the founder's surname. In 2021, Swinkels Family Brewers acquired Uiltje, with the Haarlem brewery continuing to operate as an independent brand within that portfolio. Uiltje's visual identity is built around comic-book style illustrations, with each beer carrying its own unique label artwork.
The low-alcohol range centres on two IPAs. Bird of Prey 0.2% is a hop-heavy interpretation of the brand's flagship IPA, brewed with a large quantity of hops to maintain a full IPA character at minimal alcohol. Juicy Lucy 0.2% follows the same philosophy applied to a New England IPA style, prioritising tropical hop aroma and soft body. Both sit in the premium bracket and are available through specialist alcohol-free retailers. For sober-curious drinkers who want genuine craft IPA character rather than a watered-down approximation, the 0.2% range makes a credible case, particularly for those who already know the full-strength Uiltje beers and want a low-alcohol IPA that doesn't compromise on hop presence.
Uiltje distributes internationally across Europe and the UK, with the low-alcohol variants currently available through specialist craft beer and alcohol-free retail channels rather than mainstream supermarket shelves.
