Budweiser
Budweiser is an American lager brand founded in 1876 in St. Louis, Missouri, by Adolphus Busch, now part of AB InBev following the 2008 merger of InBev and Anheuser-Busch. Budweiser Zero launched globally in 2020 as the brand's first alcohol-free beer, a 0.0% ABV lager brewed from the same core ingredients as the original before the alcohol is removed. The development of Budweiser Zero involved former NBA star Dwyane Wade, a collaboration that anchored the product's positioning around sport and active occasions from the outset.
The original Budweiser is known for its beechwood ageing process, in which the lager is conditioned on beechwood chips for 21 days to develop a crisp, clean character. That production heritage carries through to the Zero positioning, aimed at fitness-focused consumers who want to stay sharp during training or social occasions without departing from the Budweiser brand they already know.
Budweiser Zero sits at the value end of the market, consistent with Budweiser's broader positioning in the lager category. Distribution is multi-channel, covering mainstream supermarkets and specialist alcohol-free retailers. The AF lager range carries a broad retail footprint that few specialist AF brands can match at equivalent price points, supported by AB InBev's international distribution infrastructure.
Budweiser is sold across more than one hundred countries, and that global scale means the Zero line benefits from one of the most extensive logistics networks in the beer industry. The brand's combination of near-universal recognition and mass-market accessibility gives Budweiser Zero a market position in the AF lager category that dedicated AF-only brands have no realistic means of replicating at this scale.
