CISK
CISK is a Maltese lager brand founded in 1928 by the Marquis Giuseppe Scicluna, whose mixed range includes a 0.0% alcohol-free lager alongside its core alcoholic lineup, brewed on the Mediterranean island of Malta.
The brand's origins trace directly to its founder. Scicluna established Malta's first privately owned brewery by taking over the operations of one of his clients, and the name Cisk comes from his personal nickname: the Marquis was known as 'Iċ-Ċisk' across the island after introducing the first cheques to Malta. That piece of financial history became the brand's name and its founder's legacy. The brewery grew into a symbol of Maltese national identity over nearly a century of continuous production. Cisk is owned and produced by Simonds Farsons Cisk plc.
Cisk 0.0 was launched in 2021, developed in response to the growing global trend toward health-conscious lifestyles. The 0.0% lager uses the same ingredients as the flagship Cisk Lager, with the alcohol subsequently removed through a dealcoholisation process: the beer is brewed at full strength first, then the alcohol is extracted before packaging.
Outside Malta, distribution of Cisk 0.0 is narrow, available through specialist alcohol-free channels rather than mainstream retail. For sober-curious drinkers who want a 0.0% lager with genuine national brewing heritage behind it, Cisk represents a perspective rarely found elsewhere in the AF category.
