Bavaria has hundreds of breweries, but very few can trace an unbroken lineage back to 1543. Flötzinger Bräu in Rosenheim holds that distinction, making it the oldest brewery in the town and the last remaining private brewery there. The Steegmüller family has been at the helm since 1934, and before them the Krichbaumer family oversaw a period of modernisation that allowed Flötzinger to survive while many of its Rosenheim neighbours closed.

The brewery sits in Upper Bavaria, roughly equidistant between Munich and Salzburg, and draws on local barley, Hallertau hops, and alpine water. It's a very traditional operation: the core range centres on Helles lager and Hefeweizen, produced according to the Reinheitsgebot, and the brewery runs a marquee at the Rosenheim Autumn Festival every year.

Their alcohol-free offering is Flotzinger Alkoholfrei, a zero-percent Helles that follows the same approach as the rest of the range: straightforward Bavarian brewing, no shortcuts. It's a classic-style AF lager rather than anything experimental, which suits the brewery's character.

In the UK, Flötzinger is a specialist import, stocked by German beer merchants rather than mainstream retailers. It appeals to the kind of drinker who wants authentic Bavarian craft rather than the major commercial brands, and the alcohol-free version follows that audience.
