Lost Pier
Lost Pier Brewing started in 2017, gypsy brewing out of the cellar of the Pelham Arms in Lewes before settling in at the Missing Link brewery in Sussex. The brand comes out of Brighton and is run by a small team with wine industry backgrounds, which shapes both their range and their approach. Most breweries treat wine knowledge as a side note; Lost Pier made it a genuine creative direction, producing a Malbec Stout and an Assemblage range that blends wine and beer styles.
The core beers are hop-driven and relatively unfussy, aimed at being enjoyable rather than challenging. Several are gluten-free. On the alcohol-free side, the brewery produces nitro AF cans, which is a format that suits a lower-ABV beer well since the nitro mouthfeel compensates for some of what fermentation alcohol contributes to texture.
Lost Pier is resolutely independent and produces unpasteurised, unfiltered, vegan-friendly beer. Distribution runs through specialist craft beer retailers and their own online shop, with a taproom in Brighton. It's a small operation with an individual character, more interesting for its wine-beer hybrids than for the AF range specifically, but the commitment to quality carries across the whole portfolio.
