Nolia started life as a side project from Beak Brewery, the Brighton-based operation founded by Daniel Tapper: a writer turned brewer who built Beak through a nomadic, gypsy-brewing approach before establishing a permanent home in Brighton. The idea behind Nolia was to take the same hop-obsessed philosophy that defines Beak's full-strength beers and apply it uncompromisingly to an alcohol-free IPA.

The flagship product is a 0.5% hazy IPA built around hand-selected hops from individual farms in the Yakima Valley in Washington state and Nelson in New Zealand. The hop sourcing is unusually deliberate for an AF beer: most producers in the category use standard hop additions, but Nolia treats the AF format with the same farm-specific, single-origin thinking that characterises premium full-strength craft IPAs. The result is a tropical, juicy profile with apricot, mango, and citrus notes.

The brand sells direct through nolia.beer and through a range of specialist UK craft beer retailers. The NZ Edition IPA extends the range with a New Zealand hop focus, pushing the tropical and gooseberry character further. Beak Brewery won Brewery of the Year at the Great British Beer Festival Awards in 2022, a recognition that lends credibility to the AF project.

For drinkers who want a genuinely craft-minded AF IPA rather than a watered-down mass-market version, Nolia occupies a serious position in the UK market.
