Padstow Brewing
Padstow Brewing Company started in January 2013, quite literally, in a converted surf shower on the North Cornish coast. Founders Caron and Des Archer began testing recipes in a 100-litre setup so cramped that only one person could get in at a time. It was a tight start, but Padstow IPA won two awards at the Falmouth Beer Festival in the same year they launched, which gave them reason to expand quickly.
The brewery moved to an industrial unit on the outskirts of Padstow, scaling up to a custom-built 2,000-litre operation. Progress continued steadily: a SIBA award for Best Total Design Concept in 2014, two tasting rooms in the town centre (opened on Broad Street and Duke Street), and a string of competition successes including five gold awards at Maltfest in 2022-23. Padstow Pilsner won Best Beer at the Great British Food Awards in 2017-18. The range runs across real ales, lagers, and pale ales, and the brewery uses malt from Warminster Maltings in Wiltshire, one of the oldest floor malting operations still in use in the UK.
On the alcohol-free side, the Crew Brew pale ale was developed in collaboration with Cornwall Air Ambulance. It's a 0.5% hop-forward pale ale, and the partnership reflects the brewery's wider commitment to local causes; they also support the Fishermen's Mission and feature student artwork from Falmouth University on their can designs.
Distribution covers their own online shop, the two tasting rooms, and a network of local and specialist retailers. It's a firmly Cornish operation, built steadily from a very small start.
