Whissin
Whissin is a 0.0% whisky alternative from Industrias Espadafor, the Granada-based Spanish producer that has specialised in alcohol-free drinks since the 1980s. The product has been around since 1998, which makes it one of the older non-alcoholic spirit alternatives on the market — well before the current wave of craft AF spirits arrived.
The name is a straightforward Spanish portmanteau: whisky sin alcohol (whisky without alcohol). What's in the bottle is a blend of barley, maize, and wheat that's never been fermented or distilled, giving it a fundamentally different production route from the dealcoholised spirits that came along later. The flavour profile draws on caramel, corn, and oak to approximate the whisky experience. It won't fool anyone who's used to a dram, but it's reasonably convincing as a mixer — particularly in recipes where whisky is playing a supporting role rather than the lead.
Available in the standard 700ml format through UK specialist AF retailers and online stores. At the budget end of the AF spirits category, it's accessible without the premium pricing of newer craft alternatives. A practical choice for people who cook with whisky regularly or want the shape of a whisky cocktail without the alcohol.
