Castillo de Salobrena
Castillo de Salobreña is a Spanish alcohol-free wine alternative produced by Industrias Espadafor, a Granada-based family business founded by Juan Espadafor Caba in the 1930s. The company initially produced local wines before the founder's son made a decisive shift in the 1970s to specialise entirely in alcohol-free beverages. Now in its fourth generation of family ownership, Industrias Espadafor has grown into one of Spain's leading producers in the sector, exporting to more than 50 countries.
Castillo de Salobreña belongs to the mosto tradition, a style with deep roots in Spanish food culture. Where most contemporary AF wines are produced at full alcoholic strength and then have the alcohol removed afterwards (a process known as dealcoholisation), Castillo de Salobreña takes a different path: the grapes are pressed and the resulting must is treated to prevent fermentation from occurring in the first place. The drink is unfermented grape juice rather than a dealcoholised wine, and that distinction shapes both its flavour profile and its cultural context. In Spain, mosto has a long history as the wine-table alternative of choice, predating the current wave of premium AF wine by generations. The range covers red and white varieties, presented in conventional wine-style bottles.
For sober-curious drinkers who want a familiar wine-table format without the price premium that dealcoholised wines often carry, Castillo de Salobreña occupies a specific and well-defined niche. Its value-bracket pricing and broad international footprint reflect a brand built around accessible everyday use rather than premium occasion drinking. Distribution is available through specialist online retail channels alongside the producer's core export markets.
