Weekend Project
Weekend Project started as exactly that: a side venture born from the enthusiasm of James Roberts, who already ran Mobberley Brewhouse in Cheshire. He launched the brand in 2022 with a clear brief: brew class-leading IPAs, stouts, and pale ales without the compromise that often comes with scaling up. The first beers landed well, but growth at Mobberley Brewhouse pulled focus, and the project went quiet for a stretch.
The relaunch came in mid-2024, when Will France joined the team as Brand Manager, bringing credentials from Stone Brewing, Cloudwater, and Firestone Walker. That pedigree matters. These are breweries that have shaped what modern craft beer looks like, and France's arrival signalled that Weekend Project was no longer a passion project in the hobbyist sense — it was a proper commercial push with serious ambitions.
The brewery operates out of the Mobberley Brewhouse site near Knutsford, a small market town in Cheshire about 15 miles south of Manchester. It's a practical arrangement: established kit, experienced hands, and the flexibility to keep batch sizes honest. The style they've settled on leans toward low bitterness and haze. Soft, saturated beers that prioritise drinkability over complexity for its own sake.
Meadows is their benchmark pale ale: pillowy and easy-drinking, built for exactly the kind of unhurried afternoon the brand name suggests. Island Hopper comes in under 5% ABV for those watching their intake without switching lanes entirely. On the alcohol-free side, Dawn Wall is a 0.5% IPA, named with the same outdoors-adjacent sensibility that runs through the rest of the range.
Weekend Project sells direct via their own shop (minimum order six cans, free delivery above £55) and through trade accounts via Sellar. Stock turns up at independent retailers and specialist beer shops across the UK, though their presence is still growing. For a brand that's only been commercially active since summer 2024, the range is focused and the quality floor is high. Worth tracking as they find their feet.
