Gubernija
Gubernija is a brewery based in Šiauliai, Lithuania, with origins dating to 1665, making it the oldest brewery in Lithuania and one of the oldest businesses in the world. The brewery produces alcohol-free ales and lagers alongside traditional ales and kvass, drawing on more than 350 years of continuous brewing.
The brewery was officially re-established in 1867, nationalised during Soviet occupation, and re-privatised in 1999. Gubernija has historical links to the aristocracy, and its old cellars have been declared a cultural heritage site.
Kvass is a traditional fermented soft drink, and Gubernija produces it using toasted rye breadcrumbs as its base. The resulting drink has a pale brown-yellow colour and a flavour of rye bread with malty and slightly sour notes, finishing clean and lightly sweet. Carbonation is present but not heavy. Its character suits sober-curious drinkers seeking depth in a soft drink with a fermented character.
One of Gubernija's drinks has picked up awards. The brewery operates its own pubs and is owned by MV GROUP Production, UAB.
