Bunta
Bunta Beer is a London-based alcohol-free Indian craft lager brand, founded in October 2025 by Gunikka Ahuja with the mission of brewing a beer built to pair with Indian food.
Ahuja, originally from New Delhi, conceived the brand in India before establishing it in London, after noticing that the beers traditionally served alongside Indian cuisine had not evolved to match it. The idea grew from the Indian "curry and a pint" ritual. Bunta produces a lager brewed with Citra hops, coriander seeds, and orange peel on a base of barley and wheat, giving subtle citrus notes to complement bold, flavourful dishes. The brand claims to be the UK's first alcohol-free Indian craft beer, and its first draught listing was secured at The Latimer pub in Notting Hill. Bunta is aimed at lo-no drinkers.
The name connects to North India's Banta soda culture: codd-neck bottles sealed with a marble, known locally as a bunta, were a fixture of street food stalls across the region. Bunta Beer takes that word as its own.
Beyond the drink, the company positions itself as a climate-tech brand focused on the beer waste crisis. It has trademarked Buntatex™, a biodegradable textile that transforms brewing byproducts into sustainable packaging.
