Leffe
Leffe is a Belgian abbey beer brand with roots dating to 1240, when monks at the Abbey of Leffe in south Belgium first brewed beer on the site. Brewing began again in 1952 thanks to the Lootvoet brewery, revived as a commercial undertaking based on the original abbey recipe. The brand was later acquired by Interbrew, now AB InBev, and its beers are brewed at the Stella Artois brewery in Leuven. Leffe continues to pay royalties to the abbey.
Leffe produces top-fermented ales in the abbey style, a type of Belgian beer traditionally brewed by monks, with five top-fermented styles across the wider range. The alcohol-free line was introduced in 2020 as the brand's first AF release. These beers are brewed to full strength and then dealcoholised, meaning the alcohol is removed after the complete brewing process. The AF beers are produced in Belgium using water, barley malt and natural aromas. One of the brand's drinks has won awards.
Leffe maintains a visitor centre in Dinant. Its alcohol-free beers are stocked through mainstream retail channels, with sober-curious drinkers as the natural audience.
