Beck's
Beck's is a German pilsner brand founded in Bremen in 1873, and is the highest-selling exported beer from Germany.
The brewery was established on 27 June 1873 by Heinrich Beck, Lüder Rutenberg, and Thomas May as the Kaiser-Brauerei Beck & May o.H.G. in the Neustadt district of Bremen. Heinrich Beck had learned the brewing trade as an immigrant in the United States before returning to Germany. In 1873, he developed a method to preserve beer freshness for export, and the brand did not reach the German domestic market until 1949. The brewery's logo is derived from the coat of arms of Bremen.
Beck's brews according to the Reinheitsgebot, the German Beer Purity Law, using four ingredients: malt barley, hops grown in the Hallertau region of Germany, fresh brewing water, and Beck's own yeast strain, with no additives. The brewery uses two-row spring barley malt and brews at low temperatures.
Production reached 2.56 million hectolitres in 2015, and the brewery marked its 150th anniversary in 2023. Beck's is owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev, having been acquired by Interbrew in 2001. Since early 2012, US production has been based in St. Louis, Missouri.
Alongside its pilsner and lager range, Beck's offers alcohol-free alternatives, available through a broad retail footprint spanning mainstream supermarkets and specialist retailers internationally.
