Big Drop Brewing

The founding story runs through fatherhood. Rob Fink, a former City lawyer, quit drinking for a period following the birth of his first son and found the alcohol-free beer options available at the time uninspiring. He and James Kindred launched Big Drop in 2016, set on combining the craft beer movement with the growing demand for alcohol-free options. The first beers went on sale later that year.

Big Drop does not remove alcohol after brewing. Instead, it uses a specialist fermentation approach that naturally produces minimal alcohol, so the entire range sits within the 0.5% ABV limit from the start. The company operates as a contract brewer, working with partner breweries in the UK, Melbourne, Chicago, and Toronto rather than running its own facility. Head brewer Johny Clayton oversees production across a grain bill of over 20 speciality varieties, including barley, rye, wheat, and oats. Some stouts in the range incorporate cocoa nibs and lactose. The hop selection includes Chinook, Cascade, Simcoe, Citra, Columbus, Bramling Cross, and Hallertau Hersbrucker varieties. Big Drop has also collaborated with other UK craft breweries on joint brews.

The range spans stouts, lagers, pale ales, IPAs, brown ales, golden ales, porters, and sour beers. One of its beers has picked up awards. Big Drop is stocked in mainstream supermarkets in the UK, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Singapore, South Korea, and Canada, and is sold direct through its own website.
