Birra Moretti
Birra Moretti is an Italian lager brand founded in 1859 by Luigi Moretti in Udine, with its alcohol-free product, Birra Moretti Zero, added to the portfolio in 2019. The brand was sold to Labatt in 1992 before being acquired by Heineken in 1996, making it part of one of the world's largest brewing groups.
Birra Moretti Zero is produced through a dealcoholisation process, meaning the beer is brewed to full strength first and then has the alcohol removed, rather than fermentation being halted early to limit ABV. It is the brand's sole AF product, a single core lager within a much broader range of alcoholic beers.
The brand's visual identity has remained largely unchanged since 1942, when the now-iconic Baffo figure, a moustachioed man spotted at a trattoria in Udine, was adopted for the label. That continuity of image has helped Birra Moretti maintain strong recognition across markets and decades, and the Zero variant carries the same heritage presentation as its alcoholic counterparts.
Birra Moretti Zero is widely stocked across mainstream supermarkets and specialist alcohol-free retailers, giving it one of the broader retail footprints among AF lagers. That accessibility makes it a practical choice for sober-curious drinkers exploring the growing shelf space dedicated to AF beer in mainstream grocery. Pricing sits in the mid-range bracket, consistent with the parent brand's overall market positioning.
