Black Tower
Black Tower is a German wine brand founded in 1967 by Reh Kendermann, based in Bingen am Rhein, with an alcohol-free range launched in 2020 covering white and rosé variants. The brand is owned by Reh Kendermann GmbH and exported to over 35 countries, making it the most successful German wine brand by international reach. Its recognisable black bottle, inspired by traditional German stone crocks, has remained a visual anchor across the range for more than five decades.
The 0.0% AF wines are produced using vacuum distillation, a method that reduces pressure inside the vessel to lower the boiling point of alcohol, allowing it to be extracted at temperatures that preserve the wine's aromatic character without applying conventional heat. Reh Kendermann documents this method on its own product pages as chosen specifically for its gentleness.
Black Tower's move towards lower-alcohol formats began earlier than the 0.0% launch: the brand introduced a reduced-alcohol range called B by Black Tower in 2011, giving it nearly a decade of experience in moderation-minded formats before committing to a fully AF line. The White and Rosé sit within a broader portfolio of mainstream wines, making Black Tower a mixed-range brand rather than an AF-only specialist. Distribution spans mainstream supermarkets and specialist retail channels across multiple markets. The AF variants are value-positioned, consistent with the wider Black Tower range, and represent one of the more accessible entry points into dealcoholised wine for sober-curious drinkers already familiar with the brand.
