The brand was founded by Carlynne Cassady, who spent years working in the craft beer industry before creating Boro Beverage as a community-focused AF alternative to the taproom experience. Production draws on locally sourced seasonal ingredients, with Boro Beverage fermenting its kombuchas using fresh fruit and botanicals supplied directly by North Carolina farmers. The tasting room in Carrboro serves as the public face of the brand, combining retail sales with on-site pours.

Distribution extends to local farmers markets and select independent grocers across the Triangle region of North Carolina. Boro Beverage targets sober-curious consumers who want the communal atmosphere of a craft brewery without the alcohol, translating taproom culture into a dedicated AF setting.
