Brinkhoff
Brinkhoff is a German lager brand based in Dortmund, in the Ruhr region, with a brewing lineage dating to 1873, when the site operated as Dortmunder Union-Brauerei. The brand name commemorates Fritz Brinkhoff, the founding brewer of that original brewery, and was formally adopted in 2002 following a merger with Dortmunder Ritter in 1995 and a move to a new location. Brinkhoff has been part of the Radeberger Gruppe, itself owned by Dr. August Oetker KG, since 2004.
The brewery's history includes an unusual founding detail: in 1887, a pale-malt misbatch in Dortmund was dispatched to a customer in Aachen by accident, and that unplanned beer became the template for the pilsner the brand has produced ever since. The recipe has been in continuous production since 1977.
Brinkhoff's range spans pilsner lagers and radlers. An alcohol-free version joined the range in 2015. In 2022, the brand replaced its earlier offering with a completely alcohol-free beer, using special brewing methods to achieve full beer taste at 0.0% alcohol. The alcohol-free lager is brewed with barley malt, hops, hop extract, water, and carbonic acid.
Since 1 July 2008, Brauerei Brinkhoff has held the exclusive beer dispensing rights at Borussia Dortmund matches in the Signal Iduna Park, and the brand is the official beer of the club. Production takes place at the Dortmunder Actien-Brauerei, following the closure of the Dortmund-Lütgendortmund brewery in 2006.
