Brouwerij Haacht
Brouwerij Haacht is a 100% Belgian family brewery founded on 14 June 1898, and one of the oldest independent family breweries in Belgium. Established by engineer Eugène De Ro on a site that had housed a dairy operation, it was originally named "Haacht Brewery and Dairy". In 1902 the brewery adapted its installations to brew low-fermentation beer, and in 1929 it ended all dairy activities to concentrate solely on brewing.
The brewery's development unfolded across several decades. A beer tram transported kegs from the site in the 1920s. The first bottling plant opened in 1950, with Alfred van der Kelen taking over as chief executive in 1951 and Fréderic leading the business after Alfred's death in 1968. In 1990 Brouwerij Haacht undertook a complete renewal of its production equipment, and the brewery later expanded into the Netherlands and France through acquisitions.
Now led by its fourth generation, the brewery chooses to remain independent. By market share it was the third-largest brewery in Belgium in 2019, and it is the largest Belgian brewery still in Belgian ownership. The range spans both top- and bottom-fermentation beers brewed with a unique blend of hops, with the full portfolio covering more than 100 alcoholic and alcohol-free drinks. The alcohol-free range within that portfolio gives sober-curious drinkers access to beers from the same Belgian brewery, with distribution reaching across Belgium, the Netherlands and France.
