Central City Brewers and Distillers
Central City Brewers and Distillers is a British Columbia craft brewery and distillery that produces alcohol-free beers under the Street Legal sub-brand, using cross-flow filtration to remove alcohol from fully brewed beer while retaining as much flavour as possible.
Cross-flow filtration is a membrane-based separation method: the finished beer passes across a membrane that allows alcohol and water molecules through while holding back the larger flavour compounds. The result is a dealcoholised beer that starts from a fully brewed base rather than being formulated from scratch as an AF product.
Central City has established itself as a pioneer in the British Columbia craft beer scene and expanded into distilling in 2013, adding gin, whisky, and other spirits to its portfolio alongside the beer range. The dual production capability places the brand among a relatively small group of regional Canadian producers operating both a brewery and a distillery under one roof. The brand's flagship Red Racer label is one of Canada's more recognisable craft beer names, providing an established platform from which the Street Legal AF range draws credibility.
The brewery operates multiple taproom locations as well as its main production facility, giving Central City both a direct consumer relationship and wider distribution reach. The Street Legal range targets sober-curious drinkers who want access to craft beer styles from a producer with deep brewing heritage in western Canada.
