Cieszyn
Cieszyn is a Polish beer brand rooted in the longest continuously operating brewery in Poland, established in 1846 in the border town of Cieszyn, Silesia.
The site's brewing history predates the current brewery: in 1653, Regent Tluk opened a brewery in the castle on Castle Hill. Construction of a modern brewery began around 1840 and was completed in 1846 under the patronage of Archduke Albrecht Fryderyk Habsburg during the Habsburg period. The brewery's original full name, Arcyksiążęcy Browar Zamkowy (the Archduke's Castle Brewery), was restored in 2023. At its founding, the brewery was the first in this part of Europe to brew and bottle beer on an industrial scale.
The production facility sits within a Classicist palace complex on Castle Hill, with a significant portion of the infrastructure housed inside the hill itself. The brewery uses open fermentation vats and the decoction mashing method, a technique in which portions of the mash are boiled separately and then returned to the main vessel to raise temperature in stages. Historically, hops were sourced from the Czech Republic, a natural fit for a brewery on the Polish-Czech border. The brewery was nationalised in 1920 and now belongs to Felix Investments. Since 2017, it has been included on the Industrial Monuments Route of the Silesian Voivodeship.
Alongside a portfolio spanning multiple beer styles, the brewery produces an alcohol-free lager, extending its range to those who prefer to drink without alcohol. Its products reach customers through multiple retail channels.
