Corona
Corona is a Mexican lager first brewed in 1925 and today one of the top five selling beers worldwide, with an alcohol-free lager now available within its range. Created by Braulio Iriarte Goyeneche and Martín Oyamburu, the brand takes its name from the Spanish word for crown and is produced by Grupo Modelo at Cervecería Modelo in Mexico. Corona is brewed with corn, barley malt, and hops. The beer has long been associated with its clear bottle: the brand introduced clear glass quarter bottles as early as 1926 and is credited as the first beer to print its name on the bottle. Brewed in Mexico, it is exported and distributed globally by Grupo Modelo's parent company AB InBev.
International growth began in the South and Southwestern United States, where American tourists who had tasted Corona on Mexican beaches brought demand for it back home. The brand entered the US market in 1979 and became the top-selling imported beer there. It is now sold in more than 180 countries and stands as Mexico's leading beer export brand as well as the best-selling Mexican beer globally. In Spain, the brand has traded under the name Coronita since the 1980s, because a winemaker had held a similar trademark since 1907.
For those who prefer to drink without alcohol, the range includes an alcohol-free lager made as a malt beverage with natural flavours, carrying notes of fruit, honey, and malt. One of the brand's drinks has won awards. Corona is available through mainstream supermarkets and specialist drinks retailers worldwide.
