De Kuyper

The company began as a cooperage, making and selling wooden casks for transporting spirits and beer. By 1752, the family had acquired a distillery in Schiedam, a city recognised as the leading centre for Dutch gin and genever production, and shifted its focus to distilling. A new distillery was constructed at the Schiedam site in 1911. Liqueur production began in 1920, and De Kuyper entered the cocktail liqueur market for the first time in the 1920s, a move connected in part to Prohibition in the United States.

De Kuyper Royal Distillers is a privately held, family-owned company producing over 60 different liqueurs alongside gins and jenever. The company uses low-pressure (vacuum) pot still distillation, meaning drinks are produced under reduced pressure to preserve fresh flavour, and draws on natural ingredients including orange peels, lemon verbena, and bergamot. In 1995, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands granted the company the title "Royal", and the business was renamed De Kuyper Royal Distillers from Johannes de Kuyper & Zoon. It is the 9th oldest family business in the Netherlands.

De Kuyper holds the position of the largest premium cocktail liqueur brand in the world, with cocktail liqueurs sold in more than 100 countries and annual sales of over 4 million cases. The company has grown through several acquisitions, adding Mandarine Napoléon in 2009, Rutte distilleries in 2011, Cherry Heering in 2017, and Archer's in 2023. One of its drinks is award-winning.

The company also supplies an alcohol-free gin for those avoiding alcohol.
