Deschutes Brewery
Deschutes Brewery is an Oregon craft brewer based in Bend, widely regarded as a pioneer of the Pacific Northwest craft beer movement, that added an alcohol-free range to its portfolio in 2020. The brewery was founded by Gary Fish with a guiding philosophy centred on community and the social role of beer, a principle that has shaped its approach to product development across both its full-strength and AF ranges.
Deschutes entered the AF category using the BrewVo process: a proprietary method developed by Sustainable Beverage Technologies that brews the beer to full fermentation and then gently removes the alcohol. Unlike approaches that aim for a low ABV from the start, BrewVo allows the full flavour development of standard fermentation before de-alcoholisation, with the aim of retaining the character built during brewing.
The brewery operates public houses in Bend and Portland, Oregon, and distributes across more than 30 US states as well as several international markets. Deschutes brings an established craft reputation into the AF category, giving brewery-committed drinkers an option that carries the same production seriousness as its full-strength range.
