Deya

Freyne established DEYA in Gloucestershire after drawing inspiration from the freshness-focused West Coast and New England craft beer scenes in the United States. The brewery operates from a large production facility and taproom in Cheltenham, built around a philosophy of freshness, hospitality, and community. DEYA entered the low-alcohol space in early 2022 with its first 0.5% release, developing a lineup of pale ales and rotating specials aimed at sober-curious drinkers who want genuine craft provenance in an alcohol-free format.

The production approach is what sets DEYA's low-alcohol output apart from most: rather than brewing to full strength and then removing the alcohol (dealcoholisation), DEYA uses a specific yeast strain that does not ferment certain sugars. This means the body and flavour of the beer are preserved through the fermentation process itself, with the result sitting at 0.5% ABV. The method is consistent with the brewery's wider identity, producing soft, hazy beers built around hop character that have made DEYA one of the UK's most sought-after independent breweries in craft beer circles. The rotating nature of the low-alcohol range, which includes both a permanent core and occasional specials, gives it a more experimental character than a fixed core-range approach would suggest.

Distribution of the AF range runs through the brand's direct-to-consumer webshop, the Cheltenham taproom, and a small number of specialist alcohol-free retailers. That narrow, specialist distribution positions the output at the premium end of the category.
