Gage Roads

Gage Roads is an Australian craft brewery founded in 2004 near Fremantle, Western Australia, taking its name from the strip of water that separates Rottnest Island from Fremantle. John Hoedemaker was among its founders, and the brewery launched on a credit card with a $20,000 limit, initially operating out of a former margarine factory assembled from salvaged secondhand equipment. Gage Roads listed on the Australian Securities Exchange in 2006, and Woolworths Limited acquired a 25% share in 2009.

In 2016, the brewery launched its 'Returning to Craft' strategy. In 2018, it acquired Matso's and rebranded its national sales and marketing team under the Good Drinks banner; the company is now owned by Good Drinks. The brewery employs 240 people, with 20% of shares held by employees. In January 2022, it took over the historic A Shed in Fremantle, and also operates a brewpub in Fremantle.

Across its main range, the brewery produces craft beers, lagers and ciders, turning out millions of litres per year. Alongside these, Gage Roads brews an alcohol-free XPA aimed at sober-curious drinkers. The brewery describes itself as Australia's number one independent craft brewery, and one of its drinks has picked up awards.
