Good Chemistry

Good Chemistry Brewing has been part of Bristol's craft beer scene since 2015, when co-founders Robert Cary and Kelly Sidgwick set up shop in a warehouse in the city's St Philips district. Robert came up through homebrewing and stints at established breweries; Kelly brought the business nous. Together they built something that became genuinely embedded in the local community, not just another taproom but a fixture. The brewery operates out of William Street in east Bristol, with a taproom open at weekends and a couple of pubs elsewhere in the city, including the King's Head and the Good Measure in Redland.

The core range is unfined and unfiltered throughout, naturally hazy and suitable for vegans — a considered position rather than an afterthought. Styles run from a session pale through lager and stout to a mimosa lager, all bearing the slightly nerdy naming convention the brewery seems to enjoy.

Their alcohol-free output is modest. Ghost Run is a 0.5% pale ale brewed with fruity hops, light-bodied and clean, with citrus and stone fruit coming through on the nose. Before it, there was Zero Gravity, also a 0.5% pale ale, which launched in 2023 and leaned on Citra and Mosaic hops for a tropical edge. Neither is trying to reinvent the category — these are sensible additions to a brewery that's primarily focused on its full-strength range rather than a brand repositioning exercise.

Good Chemistry sits in the mid-range of Bristol craft brewing: established enough to have a following, small enough that distribution is largely local and direct. You'll find their cans in independent bottle shops around Bristol and through their own taproom and webshop, rather than supermarket shelves. For drinkers in or around the city who want the occasional low-alcohol option from a brewer they already trust, Ghost Run does the job without fuss.
