Grüvi
Grüvi is a Denver, Colorado alcohol-free craft beer and wine brand, founded in 2019 by siblings Niki and Anika Sawni after Niki Sawni experienced unwanted side effects from mixing cannabis and alcohol at a party in Canada. The name is drawn from the word "groovy", chosen to evoke a fun, countercultural attitude around staying sober, and the brand launched on 20 April 2019 at the Denver Cannabis Festival.
The brand was created to fill a gap in alcohol-free options for social settings where cannabis is present, a need the founders had experienced first-hand. Beers are produced through a Denver brewery using arrested fermentation, a method that stops fermentation before significant alcohol develops. The wine range uses Californian-grown grapes, and some wines are fully fermented before going through dealcoholisation, a process in which the alcohol is extracted after the liquid has matured. Across the range, the aim is to use ingredients as natural as possible.
Anika Sawni appeared on the Forbes 2022 30 Under 30 list. Grüvi employs 18 people full-time, and two of its drinks have picked up awards.
Products are available at around 7,500 stockists across the United States and Canada. In Colorado the brand sells mainly through independent grocers; in Canada it has a presence in major grocery chains. Grüvi has also been added to Denver's Mile High Stadium as the preferred alcohol-free brand and launched at Denver's Ball Arena as the first alcohol-free beer and wine option available inside the venue.
