Healeys
Healeys is a family-owned cyder farm and distillery in Penhallow, near Truro, Cornwall, that entered the alcohol-free market in 2021 using a patent-pending fermentation method for its low alcohol cider. Founded in 1980 by Kay and David Healey, the business has grown into the largest independent cyder-maker in Cornwall and one of the largest cyder manufacturers in the UK. David Healey serves as chairman and Joe Healey is the second-generation managing director, with the current ownership tracing directly to Donald Healey.
The farm spans 3,000 apple trees across 20 acres at Penhallow. The site was acquired in 1986, the same year Healeys planted its first trees. Cyders are produced using unfiltered natural apple pieces. Healeys also operates a distillery that was the first to open in Cornwall in 300 years, producing apple brandy and other spirits, and has vineyards planted just outside Truro producing Cornish wine. The business runs a small chain of hospitality venues and hosts the Little Orchard Cider and Music Festival. Community work is supported through the Healeys Charitable Trust Fund.
At seasonal peak the business employs around 250 people and has a turnover of £22m. Healeys exports to Finland, Germany, Denmark and Thailand.
