Kehrwieder
Kehrwieder is a small, independent family brewery from Hamburg, Germany, founded in 2014 and the brewery that released the first German alcohol-free IPA on the market. The name comes from a seafaring greeting meaning "come back". Oliver Wesseloh established Kehrwieder with the aim of combining Bavarian brewing traditions with methods, ingredients, and flavours from other parts of the world.
The brewery started as a gypsy operation, with its first beers produced in the facilities of friends. Equipment was salvaged from dairy farmers and the brewery initially set itself up in a Bavarian barn. Since 2014 Kehrwieder has operated from its own self-built brewhouse in Hamburg, running entirely on green electricity from Greenpeace Energy. The brewery uses only natural raw materials.
Across its history Kehrwieder has brewed over 100 different beers, including eight permanent fixtures and seasonal releases available for a few months each year. Alcohol-free beers now account for 50% of brewery capacity, covering IPAs, coffee stouts, and pale ales. One of those drinks has won awards.
