A. Le Coq itself has roots going back to 1807, when a Prussian trading family established the operation. The brewery eventually settled in Tartu in the late nineteenth century, drawing on the city's clean underground water supply. After surviving Soviet nationalisation and emerging with its original name restored following Estonian independence, the business was acquired by Finnish drinks group Olvi in the late 1990s and has since expanded into one of the Baltic region's largest beverage producers.

Le Coq Long sits within that wider portfolio as the long drink category. Flavours lean tropical and citrus-forward: melon, passion fruit, grapefruit, and citrus variants make up the core range, all at 5.5% ABV. The gin-based format follows the Nordic long drink tradition, mixing spirit with fruit flavours for something lighter and more sessionable than a straight cocktail.

There is an alcohol-free version of the Grapefruit variant at 0.0%, carrying the same grapefruit and juniper character as the alcoholic original. It sits in the growing AF long drink category rather than the beer or spirits-alternative end, which makes it a relatively uncommon format.
