Left Handed Giant
Left Handed Giant is an independent craft brewery based in Bristol, founded in 2014 by Bruce Gray and Jack Granger, and named after the mythical giants believed to have created the city. The founding story began with a beer handed across to Gray and Granger at their Small Bar. Left Handed Giant started as a cuckoo operation before establishing its own physical brewery in 2017 and has since grown to six premises across Bristol, producing around 7,000 hectolitres of beer annually.
A brewpub overlooking Bristol's floating harbour opened in 2019, and the brewery also runs a taproom at Finzels Reach. Left Handed Giant raised more than £1 million from the local community via Crowdcube to fund its expansion. The business is owned by its founders, employees, and community shareholders, and now has 1,500 shareholders, more than 80% of whom hold Bristol postcodes. The brewery uses renewable energy and minimises waste across its operations.
Its alcohol-free range includes IPAs brewed in Bristol under 0.5% ABV, using advanced techniques alongside seasonal ingredients and unconventional brewing methods. Left Handed Giant also runs a Run Club, connecting its alcohol-free options with fitness-focused drinkers. The brewery sells direct and has a broad retail footprint.
