Lively Up Kombucha

Lively Up Kombucha is a family-owned kombucha brewery based in Muskegon, Michigan, and has grown to become Michigan's largest kombucha company since its home-brewing origins in 2014. Founded by Brenna Kelley and Zackery Smith, the brand offers alcohol-free kombucha and JUN, brewed using a long age fermentation process of 30 days or more.

Kelley and Smith began brewing at home in 2014, inspired by the aloha spirit they encountered on a backpacking trip to Hawaii and wanted to bring back to their community in Muskegon. The brand launched at a local farmers market in 2017 with the aim of bringing people together around organic kombucha, and the business has remained family-owned and operated since.

Each brew is made with water, tea, sugar, and a live culture called SCOBY. The resulting kombucha is low in sugar and high in probiotics, and the range includes seasonal releases developed in sync with natural cycles. Drinks are available in bottles and on tap.

Cherry Capital Foods picked up the brand at the end of 2020. The drinks are now stocked at retailers from Ludington to Saugatuck, with availability across Michigan. One of Lively Up Kombucha's drinks has won awards.
