Magners
Magners is an Irish cider brand, founded in 1935 in Clonmel, County Tipperary, when William Magner began production with a cider press and a dozen oak barrels. In 1937, HP Bulmer of Hereford acquired 50% of the company, with the remaining 50% following in 1946. The brand sold its cider in Ireland under the Bulmers trademark; outside Ireland, the company could not use the Bulmers name and instead adopted William Magner's own name. The Magners brand concept was developed by Brendan McGuinness and Shane Whelan. Magners is credited with introducing the concept of drinking cider over ice, and was first sold outside Ireland in Mallorca in May 1999, reaching the United Kingdom from late 1999 and entering the United States in 2000. Today owned by C&C Group, Magners is Ireland's oldest and most recognised cider brand.
The ciders are made from 17 varieties of apples, sourced from over 100 Irish apple farmers as well as the brand's own 150 acres of orchards. The apples are fermented and matured for up to 18 months, then repeatedly filtered, following the same recipe William Magner created in 1935. The finished cider carries a low residual sweetness.
The brand's alcohol-free cider was launched in 2015 and is produced in Clonmel. It is made using a non-alcoholic fermentation process to develop cider character, which is then blended with apple juice. The range offers designated drivers and sober-curious drinkers a well-known Irish cider style without alcohol, available through mainstream retail channels internationally.
