Mahou
Mahou is a Spanish lager brewery founded in Madrid in 1890, and today the leading brand in the Spanish beer market, with an alcohol-free range alongside its established lineup. Established by Casimiro Mahou Beirhans, an entrepreneur of German origin, the company originally traded as Hijos de Casimiro Mahou and began brewing at a site on Calle Amaniel in Madrid, with production starting on 1 February 1891 under the brewery's first brewing master, Konrad Stauffer.
A 100% Spanish-owned family company, Mahou has long been active in the wider industry: Casimiro Mahou García played an active role in founding the Association of Beer Producers in 1922. In 2000, the company joined with San Miguel to form the Mahou-San Miguel Group. Mahou was the first company to introduce aluminium barrels and the first company to introduce automated bottlers. In 1993, production moved to a facility in Alovera, Guadalajara, which operates as the largest brewery in Europe.
The brewery launched its first alcohol-free beer in 1990. Its alcohol-free range currently includes an amber lager, suited to sober-curious drinkers.
