Moritz
Moritz is a lager brand from Barcelona, Catalonia, founded in 1856 when Alsatian immigrant Louis Moritz Trautmann began brewing in the city between the Raval and the Eixample, unable to find any beers in Catalonia to rival those he knew from home. It is the oldest beer brand in Barcelona.
The first Moritz beer shop opened in 1897, and in 1923 the brewery introduced the first stout to Spain. Moritz launched its first advertising campaign in 1966. The company was later dissolved before the Moritz family recovered use of its brands and re-established the business in 1978. Production restarted in 2004, led by Trautmann's descendants. In 2011, Moritz renovated its Sant Antoni brewery with architect and designer Jean Nouvel. A Beer Lab was created at the site in 2016, and the facility now operates as the Moritz Brewery and Beer Lab in the heart of Barcelona.
The brewery's alcohol-free range uses Saaz hop flowers and is a natural choice for sober-curious drinkers who want a lager from an established Catalan name. The alcohol-free lager is brewed as a fully fermented beer, meaning the fermentation runs to completion rather than being stopped early, with barley malt and Saaz hops at the base. The range originates from Barcelona, Catalonia.
Moritz is part of the Agora Group.
