Neumarkter Lammsbräu
Neumarkter Lammsbräu is a German brewery and maltings, founded in 1628 in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, Bavaria, and Germany's largest organic brewery. The Ehrnsperger family has owned the brewery since 1800; Johannes Ehrnsperger serves as managing director today. Neumarkter Lammsbräu began using organically grown raw materials in 1986 and converted its entire range to certified organic production in 1995. Its alcohol-free organic beers sit within a broader portfolio that includes 22 organic beer varieties, gluten-free organic speciality drinks, beer mixed drinks, an organic lemonade range in 13 varieties, and BioKristall, an organic mineral water drawn from the brewery's own spring and gently filtered through perlite and cellulose.
The brewery runs its own organic malthouse, the only facility of its kind in the world. It uses whole organic hop cones exclusively, including Hersbrucker varieties, and draws water from its own spring. All drinks are packaged in glass returnable bottles, each of which can be refilled at least 25 times. The drinks are vegan, though the label adhesive contains casein.
Neumarkter Lammsbräu employs 80 people and operates as a limited partnership, with membership of the Freie Brauer association of independent German brewers. Its products are mostly consumed regionally. The brewery has held EMAS (EU Eco-management and Audit Scheme) registration for over 25 years, published annual environmental reports since 1993, and set a target to reduce CO2e emissions by 42% by 2030. Water protection and biodiversity conservation are active parts of its environmental programme.
