Partake Brewing
Partake Brewing is a Canadian alcohol-free beer company, founded in Toronto in 2017 by Ted Fleming after a Crohn's disease diagnosis prompted him to give up alcohol.
Finding the AF beers then available unsatisfying, Fleming set out to bring craft beer qualities to alcohol-free drinkers. He started the business from his garage, funding it through a Kickstarter campaign that raised over $75,000 in three hours, then took the concept to the Dragons' Den, pitching it to the Dragons. Partake launched as a direct-to-consumer brand and was built around the belief that giving up alcohol should not mean losing the social connection that comes with it.
The beers sit at 0.3% ABV and are produced using a proprietary brewing process with all-natural ingredients. The range spans IPAs, pale ales, lagers, blond ales, and hefeweizens. One of the brand's drinks has picked up an award.
Partake entered the US market in December 2020 and raised $4 million in funding that year to support the expansion. Sales grew 250% between 2019 and 2020. By March 2022 the company had closed a $16.5 million Series B funding round, and its beers were named the official beverage of the 2022 Sports Illustrated Super Bowl Party. Partake now has nationwide distribution in Canada (over 500 retail locations) and operates in more than 25 US states, with over 5,000 US retail locations in total. Annual production stands at around 10,000 barrels, and the company was ranked 45th on the Financial Times list of America's Fastest-Growing Companies.
The brand is aimed at sober-curious drinkers and people who abstain from alcohol, and its products are also used by those managing diabetes and people following a keto diet.
