Paulaner

Paulaner is a Munich-based wheat beer and lager brewery founded in 1634 by the Minim friars of the Neudeck ob der Au monastery, with alcohol-free variants in the range since 1986. The brewery takes its name from Francis of Paola, the founder of the Minim order, and has operated from its Bavarian base for nearly four centuries. Ownership sits with the Paulaner Brewery Group, a joint venture between the Schörghuber Corporate Group (50.1%) and the Heineken Group (49.9%). Paulaner is one of only six breweries permitted to serve at the Munich Oktoberfest, a distinction that reflects its standing within Bavarian brewing culture.

The AF range has its roots in 1986, when Paulaner launched what it describes as the world's first non-alcoholic wheat beer, then sold under a different name before being brought under the main Paulaner brand. That history gives the alcohol-free lineup an unusually long development arc for a category that most breweries entered only in the 2010s. The current range spans wheat beers, lagers, and Radlers, all produced using dealcoholisation in which the beer is brewed and allowed to fully ferment and mature before the alcohol is removed. The wheat beer variant is isotonic and contains vitamins including folic acid and B12, making it a practical choice for fitness-focused drinkers seeking an AF option after exercise.
