Pirate's Grog
Pirate's Grog is an independent rum brand based in Hackney Wick, London, founded in 2014, whose range now includes an alcohol-free rum alongside its spiced rum lineup. The brand began when co-founders Beth and Gaz came across a rum distillery on the Caribbean island of Roatán, then operated by a local legend known as The Dutch Pirate. Its rums are made from a blend of Caribbean rums with spices and natural flavourings, and its branding pays homage to the swashbuckling history of piracy.
The encounter on Roatán took place in 2012; after returning to London, Beth and Gaz established Pirate's Grog Rum Ltd in the UK in 2014. By December 2015 the range had extended to include rums blended from five-year-old Central American stocks. Pirate's Grog also launched the UK's first Rum Music Festival, Rumbellion, placing it within the wider rum culture. When the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled every event, wholesale deal, and export contract, the team built its eCommerce operation from scratch; the brand has since expanded into Holland.
Pirate's Grog remains independently owned across multiple retail channels, with its alcohol-free rum extending the range to sober-curious drinkers who want the character of a spiced rum without the alcohol.
