Pirate's Grog
Pirate's Grog started not in a boardroom but on a Caribbean island. Founders Beth and Gaz were house-sitting on Roatán, off the coast of Honduras, when they encountered a local distiller they came to know as the Dutch Pirate. Six months of learning the craft of rum blending followed, and in 2014 they brought their first batch back to London and sold it from a van. That origin story, part adventure, part accident, explains a lot about how the brand operates: independently, with a preference for craft over scale.
They're based in Tottenham Hale now, in a warehouse that doubles as an event space, and their core range spans aged expressions, spiced varieties, and tropical flavour infusions. The five-year aged rum has earned attention from trade press and won awards at international competitions. The whole range sits on the premium end for independent UK rum.
The AF side of the business is a single product: NO DRAMA, a zero-alcohol botanical drink designed to sit alongside their spiced rums in terms of complexity. It's built around fifteen natural ingredients including pineapple, lime leaf, clove, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, vanilla, cocoa nibs and toasted coconut. The addition of Lion's Mane mushroom is the functional hook. At £25 for 70cl it's priced in line with the rest of the premium AF spirits market.
NO DRAMA launched recently and has already sold out through the brand's own shop. It's available through Amazon and select online retailers while stock lasts. As a first step into alcohol-free territory from a rum-first brand, it's a more focused approach than most: one product, high quality ingredients, reasonably priced.
