Rhinegeist
Rhinegeist is a craft brewery and cidery based in Cincinnati, Ohio, that opened its doors on 29 June 2013 and moved into the alcohol-free beer market in late 2025. Co-founded by Bob Bonder and Bryant Goulding, who first met in 2005 while working as business consultants in San Francisco, the brewery takes its name from the German for "Spirit of the Rhine": "Rhine" for Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighbourhood and "Geist" as a ghostly nod to the area's German brewing heritage.
The main facility occupies the former Christian Moerlein Brewing Company packaging hall, a building dating to 1853, in the Over-the-Rhine neighbourhood. A second facility operates in Cincinnati's Camp Washington neighbourhood. By 2023, annual beer production had reached 110,000 US barrels, and the brewery employs over 200 people. In 2018, Rhinegeist ranked as the second largest independent craft brewery in Ohio by sales volume and debuted among the top 50 largest craft breweries in the United States.
Beyond its main beer range, Rhinegeist runs a cider operation under the Cidergeist name, launched in October 2015. The brewery announced its alcohol-free beer line in May 2025, and one of its beers in this range has picked up an award. Distribution covers Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Wisconsin, with self-distribution in Cincinnati and Columbus.
