Sagres
Sagres is a Portuguese lager brand founded in 1940 in Vialonga, Portugal, with an alcohol-free 0.0% range available internationally since the mid-2000s. The brand was created by Sociedade Central de Cervejas to represent the company at the Portuguese World Exhibition, taking its name from the coastal town historically associated with Portugal's Age of Discovery. Since 2008, Sociedade Central de Cervejas has been a wholly owned subsidiary of the Heineken Group, giving Sagres the production infrastructure and international reach of one of the world's largest brewing companies.
Sagres first entered the alcohol-free category in 2005 with the launch of Sagres Sem Álcool. The range was subsequently updated and rebranded as Sagres 0.0 in 2017. The current 0.0 line covers lager and dark beer styles, offering a small but distinct AF portfolio for consumers who want the familiar character of a Portuguese lager without the alcohol. The brand positions Sagres 0.0 for fitness-focused drinkers who want to maintain an active lifestyle.
At home, Sagres holds a dominant position in the Portuguese beer market and has been the official sponsor of the Portuguese National Football Team since 1993, making it one of the most recognisable beer brands in the country. That cultural weight travels with the brand internationally, particularly among Portuguese diaspora communities. Available through specialist alcohol-free retailers, Sagres 0.0 sits at the accessible end of the AF beer market rather than the premium bracket, and the range is an active, current product with no signs of discontinuation.
