St. Peter's Without
St. Peter's Without is the alcohol-free beer range of St. Peter's Brewery, a Suffolk craft brewer founded in 1996 by John Murphy in Bungay, England, with the lineup launched in August 2016.
The brewery is based at St. Peter's Hall, a historic property in Bungay, and draws water for all its beers from its own on-site borehole. In January 2021, the brewery was acquired by a group of private investors led by CEO Derek Jones, marking a change of ownership whilst leaving the brand and production base intact. St. Peter's is also known for its distinctive oval bottle, modelled on an 18th-century gin flask produced around 1770 for a Philadelphia innkeeper named Thomas Garrick; the Without range uses the same packaging, giving it an immediately recognisable presence on the shelf.
The Without beers are brewed to strength rather than having alcohol removed after fermentation. This means the brewing process is controlled from the outset so that alcohol never forms in significant quantities, a distinct approach from dealcoholisation where beer is brewed at full strength and alcohol is subsequently extracted. The Without range covers three styles: traditional ales and an organic pale ale, giving sober-curious drinkers a breadth of real-ale character across a small, focused lineup.
The brewery draws water from its own on-site borehole in Suffolk, a detail St. Peter's highlights as part of its production identity. Distribution is through online specialist and mainstream channels, with the Without range sitting in the mid-range price bracket for craft alcohol-free beer.
