Stella Artois
Stella Artois is a Belgian pilsner lager from Leuven, with roots in the Den Hoorn brewery, founded in 1366. Sébastien Artois acquired the brewery in 1717 and renamed it after himself. The brand took its current form on Christmas Day 1926, when the brewery produced a special festive batch for the people of Leuven with a star on the label. The word "Stella" is Latin for star, and that Christmas release established the brand's name.
As a bottom-fermented blond pilsner, it is brewed from four ingredients: malted barley, maize, Saaz hops and water. Stella Artois is produced at its original home in Leuven and is also brewed in the United Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, Australia, Ukraine and Russia.
The brand is part of the Anheuser-Busch InBev portfolio. An alcohol-free version was introduced in the United Kingdom in 2020 and in the United States in 2021, offering those who prefer to drink without alcohol a pilsner from one of Belgium's most established brewing names. The lager sits in the mid-range of the market and is widely stocked in mainstream supermarkets and available through other retail channels internationally.
