Stewart Brewing

Steve and Jo Stewart have kept the brewery family-owned and independent throughout more than two decades in operation, building the brand from its custom-built site in Loanhead, on the outskirts of Edinburgh. The Scot Free range was developed in response to growing consumer demand for quality AF options, and is brewed using a specialised yeast strain that naturally produces very little alcohol during fermentation, a low-yield approach that keeps the ABV close to 0.5% from the start rather than removing alcohol after production. The range covers lager and pale ale formats, both at 0.5% ABV.

Stewart Brewing also operates what it describes as the UK's first brew-it-yourself facility within a commercial brewery, the Craft Beer Kitchen at Loanhead, reflecting the brand's community focus alongside its core production programme.

Distribution for the Scot Free range is through the brand's own online store and specialist alcohol-free retailers, making it a specialist proposition rather than a mainstream supermarket find. The 0.5% ABV classification places the range in the low-alcohol category under most regulatory frameworks, a distinction worth noting for sober-curious drinkers who require genuinely 0.0% drinks rather than low-alcohol alternatives.
